MPTP (Mobile Phone Telematics Protocol) is a mobile communication system developed by Benefon Corporation
-
It is the key to building effective mobile asset and staff management solutions utilising GSM and GPS networks
-
MPTP commands empower consumers with sophisticated functionality drawing on the strengths of GPS-based location information
-
Most importantly, all the complexity is transparent to the end-user with simple configuration options provided
Telematics enables, for example, exchange of location updates, remote upload of tracking and route information to the service centre, remote control of the mobile phone user interfaces, etc.
The information is exchanged via specially formatted SMS messages in a fast and efficient communication process. The power of telematics - as implemented in the Benefon devices - stems from this very simple and reliable method.
Telematics works anywhere with GSM reception and does not require the mobile network providers to update their systems. Ability to use SMS messages is the only prerequisite.
Major areas of application include:
-
business and consumer navigational directions
-
geomessaging and mobile communities
-
yellow pages with turn-by-turn instructions
-
points of interest information
-
location-sensitive sponsored content
-
fleet and staff management
-
personal safety
-
security
-
healthcare
-
sports and lifestyle
Telematics protocol is the key to emergency monitoring services as provided by our partner SMC. When the distress button is pressed on a GPS-enabled Benefon mobile phone or tracking device, the signal is transferred to the monitoring centre via SMS and displayed on a computer screen against a locality map.
This in turn enables the security monitoring officer on duty to divert the emergency resources in an appropriate way - for example, by calling the Police, or alreting the manager on duty about the problem and asking the security department to investigate.
If you choose to use the services of our partner SMC, you will have full control over the emergency management process. At Intelifon, we will provide you with complimentary advice on best practices and ensure you get the best value for your money.

What about privacy?
There is general concern about privacy issues with the new location-based services. Can anybody track my location through MPTP (Telematics)?
Benefon wireless instruments targeted for consumer markets require the consent of the user for his position to be revealed to other persons or to services. Products targeted at vertical business or organisational applications may be configured by request to authorise the service center to track the device.
Telematics could be essential, for example, to provide back-up safety to lone workers or to track valuable assets while in transit - it is, however, based on client's internal requirements and practices.
